Project Brief
Structural redesign services engaged by both the contractor (Vos Constructions) and the client.
Key Challenges
Initially Gandy and Roberts were approached by the lowest tenderer to develop alternative structural solutions after the project was found to be over budget. This project is a particularly striking example of the amount of time and money that can be saved by employing common sense and appropriately scaled construction techniques. By using compacted fill platforms (from existing site material), domestic style timber framing (and consequently minimising or eliminating steel framing and/or suspended concrete structures) over $1M and 12 weeks of construction time was saved within the structure alone.
Result
The project was brought into budget and Gandy and Roberts were engaged by the architect to redesign and re-document the building structures. An excellent, ongoing relationship exists with the contractor.
