Located in the heart of Hobart’s CBD, the Avalon City Retreat establishes a precedent for sustainable and adaptable accommodation in the contemporary innovative climate of Tasmania’s tourism market. The dynamic minimalist penthouse sits atop an eight-story Boyd-era office block in the inner city. The unit is comprised of three segments forming a transportable structure called the Omnipod.
The Omnipod is a modular lodging that is constructed offsite and can be fabricated and relocated at convenience. Designed by Rosevear Architects, the Omnipod employs two bedroom/ensuite units situated at either end of the structure that brace the three open-planned living units. In the Omnipod constituting Avalon City Retreat, these living spaces include lounge, kitchen, and dining spaces. The units, which weigh in at four and six tonnes respectively, are designed to fit on a truck to accommodate accessible transport.
